TheWomen’s Institute(WI) was formed to encourage country women to get involved in growing and preserving food during the First World War. It is generally associated with food and crafts, however it is also a campaigning organisation -primarily on issues affecting women.
The design of this tea towel represents WI women through the decades, starting with Lady Denman -the first President- through to a member today. Each character is holding a placard illustrating the campaign of a particular year.
