Anne Boleyn (c.1500-1536) was the 2nd wife of Henry VIII and mother of the future Queen Elizabeth I. He accused Anne of adultery, and she was convicted and beheaded on May 19, 1536. The fact that she had not given birth to a male heir was, however, Henry’s primary motive for having her executed. She is one of the most intriguing figures in British history. Her love-match with Henry VIII and her subsequent execution after only three years of marriage have inspired dozens of books and films.
